Description

Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker (old)

Accurate information about the original construction of the church is not available. According to popular tradition, until 1792 it was wooden. In 1792, a small brick church was built, but, according to the new master plan of the city of Efremov, it was moved to another place (now [2018] it is the intersection of Komsomolskaya and M. Gorky Streets), where it was located until 1832. In 1840, a new, more spacious building was built on the same site. The church was a large single-domed building in the style of classicism with a refectory and a bell tower. A wooden chapel was built on the site of the old wooden one, which burned down in 1842, and then on this site the Efrem merchant Vavilov built a house for himself, and a small icon case with an icon of the image of Nicholas the Wonderworker was built in the wall, in memory of the chapel.
In the temple there were side altars : the right - in the name of the great martyr John the Warrior and the left - in the name of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God . Thanks to the large financial donations of the merchants G.P. Nechaev and I.S. Dolgov, in 1893 the church was completely renovated outside and inside. The main iconostasis has especially changed. It was gilded and painted again.
The parish included part of the city of Efremov and the settlement : Streletskaya and Suha (s) novskaya. Since 1886, a church and parish school operated . Destroyed in the middle of the 20th century. The place where the old church stood was marked with a memorial sign [1] [2] [3] [4] .

Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker (new)

The modern church in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was built not far from the previous location and is a four- piece with gable finishes of the facades, crowned with a bulbous dome, with a western vestibule and a single-tier ringing above it [5] [6] [7] .
