Malik Monk ( born February 4, 1998 in Jonesboro , Arkansas , USA ) is an American professional basketball player who plays for the Charlotte Hornets National Basketball Association . At the student level, he played for Kentucky for one season. In the 2017 NBA draft, the Hornets were selected in the first round under a common 11th number. Plays as an attacking defender .

High School
Monk visited the University of Kentucky on November 18, 2015 [1] . During his first year of study, Malik attended East Poinset Country Lepanto School, Arkansas . As a beginner, he had outstanding statistics - 22.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game, which led the team to a record (25-8) and access to the state final. After his first year of study, Monk went to Bentonville School ( Bentonville , Arkansas ). During the second year of study, he scored 26.6 points per game. In the spring and summer of 2015, Monk played for the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) team. Malik averaged 19.7 points in 12 games. Then in 2015, Monk played for the East team at the Nike Global Challenge, where his performance was 22 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists per game, which allowed him to get the title of best player in the tournament. In the third grade, Malik still improved his average to 28.6 points, 4.4 assists and 7.6 rebounds. In 2016, Monk played in the McDonald's All-American and Jordan Brand Classic games, where he was awarded the MVP title along with Kentucky teammate De'Aaron Fox .
On March 11, 2016, Monk played the last game for the school.
Monk had the status of a confident five-star candidate in assessing the prospects for development and occupied the 9th line in the ranking of recruits in 2016 for 4 major agencies Rivals , ESPN , Scout and 247 Sports [2] .
Student career
On November 18, 2015, Monk announced that he would like to play for Kentucky [3] .
On December 17, 2016, a young basketball player set a record for a newcomer to the University of Kentucky by points scored for the game (47 points) in the game against North Carolina [4] . 12 days later, in a game against the Mississippi, Monk added 34 points to the asset, scoring 5 out of 7 three-point shots [5] . On January 31, 2017, Malik scored 37 points in a duel against Georgia [6] .
At the end of his first year at college, Monk announced that he refused to continue his studies and was nominated for the 2017 NBA Draft , where he was predicted to choose in the first round [7] .
NBA
Charlotte Hornets (2017 – present)
On June 22, 2017, Monk was selected in the 2017 NBA draft in the first round under a common 11th number by Charlotte Hornets . On July 2, 2017, Malik signed a rookie contract with the Hornets. Monk missed the NBA Summer League 2017 due to a knee injury. In his fourth game on October 25, 2017 against Denver Nuggets, the rookie scored 17 points, 2 interceptions and 2 assists. On November 1, 2017, in a victory game against Milwaukee, Bucks Monk scored 25 points.
During his first season, Malik also played one game for the Hornets team in the NBA Development League Greensboro Swarm . He scored 25 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. [eight]

Malik's elder brother is a professional American football player Marcus Monk, who played as a receiver [9] .
