Description

The five-domed stone church was built in 1752 on the site of the ancient Paraskeva Friday Church , which is mentioned in the Scribe Book of Gorodensk and Venevsky Uyezd for 1571-1572 and was burned by the Crimean Tatars in 1633. The church had two chapels : the Annunciation of the Mother of God and the Holy Martyr Paraskeva . The church stood unchanged until the beginning of the XIX century, when it was decided to expand it. In 1805, they built a refectory with the same aisles. In 1817, the main building was dismantled and the construction of a new one began, which was completed in 1825. In 1816, the impassable Spassopreobrazhenskaya church was assigned to the cathedral.
In 1837, the temple was visited by the heir to the throne, Alexander Nikolayevich Romanov (future emperor Alexander II ), with his teacher, poet V. A. Zhukovsky .
The church parish included: part of the city itself and the Pushkarskaya, Streletskaya, Gorodenskaya settlements . When the church existed (1915) , a parish school , an almshouse , in the village of Gorodensky - a zemstvo school . In the church there were (before the revolution ) especially revered ancient icons of Paraskeva Friday and John the Theologian. According to legend, both icons were transferred from the old Paraskeev church.
In the 1930s, the cathedral was closed and used for various warehouses. The bell tower has not been preserved. In 1988, the temple building was transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church. In the following years it was repaired and now (2018) is operational. Patronal festivals: Resurrection of the Slovoie - September 26, Great Martyr Paraskeva Friday - November 10, Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin - April 7 [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] .
