Mohammed Saad Tevfik el-Katatni ( Arabic محمد سعد توفيق الكتاتني , born March 4, 1952) is an Egyptian politician. Since October 2012, he has been the chairman of the Freedom and Justice Party . From January to September 2012 he served as chairman of the House of Representatives of Egypt . Previously, he was a member of the leadership of the Muslim Brotherhood and served as the first general secretary of the Freedom and Justice Party.

Biography
Born on March 4, 1952. He studied botany at the University of Assiut, who graduated in 1974 with a bachelor of science degree. Then for one year he served in the army by conscription. After graduation, he resumed his studies at the institute, specializing in microbiology, in 1979 he received a master's degree. Then four years he studied and taught at the University of Minya. After graduation, he taught at the same university. In 1991 he became an associate professor, in 2004 - a professor [1] .
Political career
In 2005–2010, he headed the Muslim Brotherhood parliamentary bloc. Then he became part of their leadership, left the leadership of the Muslim Brotherhood after joining the Party of Freedom and Justice. He became the first general secretary of the Freedom and Justice Party [2] .
In January 2012, he was nominated by the Party of Freedom and Justice to the presidency of the House of Representatives of Egypt. El-Katatni was elected, receiving 399 votes out of 498 [3] .
In October 2012, he was elected Chairman of the Freedom and Justice Party. At that time, the Freedom and Justice Party was the largest party in Egypt and had 47% of the seats in the lower house of parliament [4] .
On July 4, 2013, after a little earlier, the military coup of El-Katatni was arrested [5] . On July 14, Egyptian Prosecutor General Hisham Barakat ordered the freezing of his assets [6] .
Political views
After being elected chairman of the Freedom and Justice Party, El-Katatni announced that he was going to introduce Sharia law in Egypt [7] .
