Description

The total length of representatives of this genus ranges from 4.9 to 7 cm. They have a certain similarity with soms of the genus Farlowella . The head is strongly flattened from the sides and from above, extended, the end of the snout is rounded or oval. The eyes are tiny, the mouth is moderately wide. The body is extended behind the head. All fins are small in size. The dorsal fin has 7-8 soft rays, anal - 4-6. Pectoral fins thick, with jagged rays. Most types of belly have no bony plates, except for Acestridium triplax . Adipose fin absent.

The color is green or brown with different shades [2] .

Lifestyle

These are bottom fish . There are no more than a meter deep in shallow forest streams, with clear or slightly muddy water and moderate current. Prefer sandy bottom, without vegetation, which should grow near the coast. They feed on small benthic organisms [3] .

Spread

They live in the basins of the Orinoco rivers (tributary Iniridu), Rio Negro , Madeira and Tapazhos within Colombia , Venezuela and Brazil [2] .
