Biography

Sergey Manzhigeev was born on February 6, 1935 in the city of Ulan-Ude , the Buryat-Mongolian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic .

Sergey began his career in music in a brass band in the House of Pioneers. After high school, he enters the Ulan-Ude School of Music, where he studies as a clarinet player.

In 1962 he graduated from the Ural State Conservatory named after M.P. Mussorgsky in the city of Sverdlovsk . He studied composition class HM Khlopkova [2] . While studying there, Sergey Stepanovich began to compose musical works as a composer.

Returning to his homeland from 1962 to 1968 he worked as a teacher at a music school in Ulan-Ude.

In 1968 he was elected executive secretary of the Union of Composers of the Buryat Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic.

He brought up such well-known composers in the republic and abroad - Yuri Irdyneev , Viktor Usovich, Larisa Sanzhieva, Ekaterina Olerskaya. All of them were students of Sergei Manzhigeyev in composition class [3] .

After retiring, he continued to teach at his native college of music.

Sergei Manzhigeev passed away after a serious long illness on July 31, 2011 [4] .

Creativity

Manzhigeev wrote many symphonic works. Among them - a symphonic poem "In memory of heroes", a symphonic overture "Friendship" and others. His music is simple, melodic and expressive.

But the greatest glory was brought to him by the compilation of melodies for songs, they are performed with pleasure by Buryat singers and are very loved by the people. The songs “Shamkhandaa” (“To you”) to the poems of C.-J. became popular. Zhimbieva, “Dalhey mini algan deer” (“Peace on my palms”) to the verses of C.-D. Dondokova, “Yaaraltai Khargi” (“Fast Road”) to the verses of S. Angabaev.

For many years, Sergey Manzhigeev collaborated with the Baikal song and dance ensemble . For this collective, he wrote such dance numbers as “Pioneers”, “Dance of the Bators”, “Flower of Lake Baikal”, “Dance of Dolls”. Together with the ensemble, he traveled almost the whole country.

Thanks to the work of Sergei Stepanovich Manzhigeev, music and dance lovers outside the homeland received an idea of ​​the original and colorful culture of Buryatia.
