Story
On the tragic fate of the Estonian artist Ülo Sooster and his work.
About the cartoon
In the film School of Fine Arts, Schnittke's symphonic music peacefully coexists with Vysotsky’s guitar choices, and Lotman’s lecture with clown Polunin ... "Disorder". A tape-recording film rustles and crackles, with which Okudzhava sings about the love of the unlucky Vanka Morozov, carefree nudes models scamper and chirp, noisy feasts of like-minded people gather, and an “anecdote” is told under the laughter explosions. It is as if the clay itself is twisted into intricate spirals, and the lines on the canvases bend meekly, echoing the outlines of the flexible bodies of the girlfriends.

The Khrzhanovsky films made in the late eighties based on drawings and paintings of his deceased comrade Yulo Sooster were again unexpected for Russian animation. The fact is that the famous Estonian Sooster (one of the main characters of the Moscow non-conformist art, defeated by Khrushchev at the famous Manege Exhibition and earning with Ilya Kabakov drawings in popular science magazines) - to surrealism. And Khrzhanovsky’s film, which combined Sooster’s paintings and graphics with documents and field shooting, naturally followed the artist’s bizarre imagination.
