“Evil Night” ( 1914 ) is a silent art film directed by Eugene Bauer . The film was released on November 18, 1914 [1] [2] . The film has not been preserved.

Story
Student Georges Vinogradov and his bride Vera are in love. However, Vera unexpectedly commits suicide. Georges accidentally finds out the reason for the suicide of his bride. The culprit of her death is his friend Novoselsky, whose harassment Vera could not restrain. Georges kills Novoselsky in the same place where his bride committed suicide.

Criticism
Soon after the film was released, the journal Vestnik Kinatografii wrote: “Evil Night” - a play of life's truth, artistic realism; creativity, real art shows in the smallest details of exciting provisions, not to mention the deliberate use of the plot, revealing life as it is ” [3] [4] . The reviewer F. Mashkov praised the film in the magazine "Projector" [2] [5] .
The historian of pre-revolutionary cinema Veniamin Vishnevsky pointed out that the film “Evil Night” is “a psychological drama noted by the press for its vitality and original dramatic composition” [1] .
Cinematographer C. Ginzburg praised the film and attributed it to psychological paintings [6] [7] .
