General Information
The fourth number of the world ranking in the 2005 season, Amelie Moresmo for the first time became the winner of the Final tournament. This was her fifth performance at the final tournament and Moresmo became the first representative of France, who managed to win this title in singles.
Last year's champion Maria Sharapova defended her title as the third seeding number and reached the semifinals, losing to Amelie Moresmo.
Of the eight participants in the final tournament, three represented Russia. The only one who overcame the group stage was Maria Sharapova.
