John Tabbutt (born May 25, 1834 in Winsor, New South Wales , died November 29, 1916) is an Australian astronomer .

He discovered on May 13, 1861, the Great Comet, which later received the designation C / 1861 J1 .
The lunar crater Tebbutt was named after him. His portrait is depicted on an Australian banknote of 100 dollars. Asteroid (11212) Tebbutt also bears his name from October 13, 2000.
