Cafe Schwarzenberg ( German: Café Schwarzenberg , named after Field Marshal Schwarzenberg ) is a Viennese coffee house in the Inner City on the main street Ringstrasse opposite Schwarzenbergplatz . The regular clientele of the cafe has always been business representatives, not cultural and art workers, as in many other famous Viennese coffee houses. One of the regular customers of the Schwarzenberg café was the architect Josef Hoffman , co-founder of the Vienna Workshops , who worked on his sketches. The cafe has preserved the original atmosphere of the 19th century and has a chanigarten .

The building in which the cafe is located is the former profitable house of the silk manufacturer August Zeppenzauer, built in 1861-1863 during the development of Ringstrasse according to the project of the architect Wilhelm Westman . The cafe in the building under its own name was opened in 1863 by Raimund Gohleitner. After his death, the cafe remained until 1882 under the direction of his wife. In 1883-1901, the cafe was called Sperrer by the name of its new owner, then the company was headed by Josef Menschl, who gave the cafe the name Schwarzenberg. After the Anschluss of 1938 and until the end of World War II, the cafe was called "Germany"; Jews were not served there [1] . In 1979, the cafe became the property of the city, and in 1980 was overhauled. Currently, the cafe is owned by the travel company Kulinarik GmbH. The cafe premises host various cultural events: lectures, exhibitions and concert evenings. Several days a week in the evening, live music is played in the cafe.
