Richard Dem (born July 6, 1907 in Nuremberg , died March 20, 1996 in the same place) is a German paleontologist .

Biography
Dem studied geology and paleontology at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich (among others at Ferdinand Broglie and Ernst von Reichenbach), where he received his doctorate in 1930 (with a theme in geology in Riesz , geological research, the sheet area of Monheim ) and passed test for the right to teach. However, instead of becoming a teacher, he became an assistant at the Institute of Paleontology and Historical Geology in 1932. He was habituated in 1935, and in 1936 he became a researcher, and in 1937 - a conservative and teacher of the Bavarian State Collection of Paleontology and Geology. Since 1950, he was a professor of historical geology and paleontology at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and director of the Bavarian State Collection, which he restored after the end of the war.
Among other things, he was engaged in tertiary mammals, including karst columns filling the Alb (as well as layers from Sivalik in Pakistan) and with a meteorite crater in the Nördlingen Rice.
In 1984, he became an honorary member of the Paleontological Society , and in 1991 - the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology. In 1962, he became a member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .
