The automotive industry of Iran is one of the important sectors of the Iranian economy .
Iran’s auto industry is the third most active industrial sector in the country, after oil and gas, which is 10% of Iran’s GDP [1] [2] [3] [4] .
Iranian manufacturers currently produce six different types of vehicles, including cars, SUVs, trucks, buses, vans and pickups. About 500,000 people (approximately 2.3% of the workforce) work directly in the automotive sector [5] .
About 75% of local products are cars, and pickup production is about 15%.

Development History
In the 1960s, due to a lack of technical know-how and the inability to produce their own cars, Western companies were invited to Iran, which began to produce cars in the country. Thanks to this, Iran has developed its own industry and was able to produce cars on its own, including at the new car factory in the city of Kashan .
Currently, more than 25 car manufacturers are present in Iran. These companies have established joint ventures with such well-known international manufacturers as Peugeot , Citroen , Renault ( France ), Volkswagen , BMW Mercedes-Benz ( Germany ), Nissan , Toyota ( Japan ), Proton ( Malaysia ), Chery ( China ), Kia Motors , Hyundai and Daewoo ( South Korea ).
