Biography
Joseph Duffy was born February 18, 1988 in the village of Burtonport , Ulster Province, Ireland . As a child, he was a big fan of rugby , later became interested in martial arts - practiced taekwondo and traditional jiu-jitsu , later he was awarded black belts in both of these disciplines. For a long time he performed in the MMA at the amateur level, having won more than twenty victories in various competitions [1] [2] .
Beginning of a professional career
He made his debut in mixed martial arts on a professional level in March 2008, having beaten his rival by technical knockout in the first round. He fought in tournaments of small promotions in Ireland and the UK - in all cases, he always left the fights as a winner.
In 2010, he marked a victory over a fairly strong Northern Irish fighter Norman Park . He took part in the twelfth season of the popular fighting reality show The Ultimate Fighter , but at the preliminary stage he lost to Kyle Watson and immediately dropped out of the participants [3] .
A significant part of Duffy’s fighting career is connected with the British promotion Cage Warriors , where in the period 2010-2014 he won a total of six victories, including for 38 seconds forced to surrender the famous compatriot Conor McGregor in the future [4] . He had the opportunity to win the vacant title of champion Cage Warriors in the light weight category, but lost the champion fight to Ivan Musardo [5] .
In addition, in 2013 he won seven victories in professional boxing , but then returned to MMA [6] .
Ultimate Fighting Championship
With 13 victories on his track record and only one defeat, Duffy attracted the attention of the largest fighting organization in the world and signed a long-term contract with her in January 2015. He made his debut in the UFC octagon in March of that year, having won by technical knockout from Jake Lindsay . Then, with the help of a suffocating trick, the “ triangle ” made Ivan Georges surrender, thereby earning a bonus for the best performance of the evening [7] .
In 2016, by unanimous decision, he lost to Dustin Poirier , but won by surrender to Mitch Clark [8] .
In 2017, he spent two more fights in the UFC, defeated Reza Madadi on points, lost by technical knockout to James Wick [9] .
