Lazar Sukhovolsky ( Polish. Lazar Suchowolski , 1909 , Bialystok - 1991 ) - French and Australian chess player of Polish - Jewish origin.

Biography
He moved from Poland to France in 1927. He studied mathematics at the University of Franche-Comté ( Besancon ). In 1934 he won the reserve championship of Paris. He also successfully played in the championships of the French capital in 1935 and 1938.
In June 1939 he left for Australia. He lived in Melbourne . He changed his name to Stefan Lazare . In 1957 he achieved the greatest sporting success: he shared 1-2 places in the Australian Championship with K. Ozols . According to the terms of the competition, an additional match was to be held between them, however, soon after the tournament ended, Sukholovsky emigrated to Israel . As a result, the Australian title was awarded to both.
