Biography
On the maternal side, he was associated with St. Francis Xavier , one of the founders of the Society of Jesus (Jesuit Order) .
Educated at the local monastery of San Salvador. Then he studied theology at the University of Salamanca , where he received a bachelor's degree.
He served as a priest, was a famous preacher .
One of the most famous representatives of Basque literature of the XVII century. His main work, Gero (“Later”, 1643), devoted to ideas about the harm and misfortune arising from non-fulfillment of religious duties, on the grounds that people need to immediately turn to Christ against the background of the transience of human life, is one of the most important works written in Basque (euskara) and is considered one of the masterpieces of classical Basque literature. [4] . The book was written by the author after a dramatic period in the struggle of the Spanish Inquisition to eradicate witchcraft .
According to experts, Ashular is the “ Cervantes Euskers”.
