History
The city was founded in 1900 by immigrants from Palmyra [2] . The city soon became the center of an agricultural region inhabited by former Bedouin nomads.
In 2018, a floor mosaic was found in Akerabat, one of the largest mosaics found in Syria and inferior in size to only mosaics in Taybet al-Imam . [3]
Civil War
In 2014, at the height of the civil war, the city was captured by ISIS . On September 3, 2017, the Syrian Arab army recaptured the city from militants, but after a week was forced to leave a significant part of its territory. September 15, as a result of a powerful counterattack with significant support from the Russian Air Force, government forces regained control of the city. ISIS units retreated to the northeast of the province of Hama [4] .
