Biography
Vladimir Alexandrovich Labuntsov was born on July 11, 1927. In 1950 he graduated from the Moscow Power Engineering Institute and entered graduate school. After three years of graduate school, MPEI defended his thesis on the topic: “Ionic frequency converter for powering induction motors”. In the dissertation, the phenomenon of self-excitation was studied in the system "autonomous inverter - asynchronous motor", which the author explained by the transition of the motor to self-excitation in the presence of switching capacitors in the supply inverter circuit. The author made recommendations for eliminating self-excitation.
In 1953, Vladimir Alexandrovich began to engage in pedagogical activities at the Department of Industrial Electronics of the Moscow Power Engineering Institute. In 1957 he received the title of assistant professor.
Research interests: work of frequency converters, autonomous inverters, inverter control systems. In the early 60s, semiconductor thyristors were created, and Vladimir Alexandrovich, who studied their characteristics, became a specialist in thyristor converters.
In 1973, Vladimir Alexandrovich defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic: “Analysis and synthesis of thyristor autonomous voltage inverters”. Received the degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences and the title of professor. In 1961 he was elected deputy head of the Department of Industrial Electronics MPEI. Since 1974, he worked as the head of the department, replacing the Lenin Prize laureate, Professor I. L. Kaganov , and became chairman of the Scientific and Methodological Council on Industrial Electronics of the USSR Ministry of Higher Education.
In 1979, Vladimir Alexandrovich took over the position of the head of the laboratory of converting technology at the Institute of High Temperatures of the USSR Academy of Sciences, located next to the MPEI, and became the head of work on the development of inverters for converting direct current from MHD generators to alternating current, which was then supplied to the industrial network
Along with his work at the Institute of High Temperatures of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (IVTAN), V.A. Labuntsov continued to head the Department of Industrial Electronics at MPEI until 1992, spoke at international scientific conferences, and was the author of scientific papers and inventions.
Vladimir Aleksandrovich Labuntsov prepared at the MPEI about 30 candidates of technical sciences. At various times, he was a member of the editorial boards of Energoatomizdat, was a member of the Higher School publishing house, was a member of the working groups of several committees and subcommittees of the International Electrotechnical Commission, a member of specialized councils for awarding academic degrees, and was chairman of the Moscow section of NTO conversion technology, and was editor-in-chief of the journal "Electricity" (1989-1996) and others.
Vladimir Alexandrovich also worked at the Academy of Electrotechnical Sciences of the Russian Federation, was a member of the Academy Presidium.
