After graduating from high school in the city of Dzhambul (now Taraz ), he entered the Tomsk Polytechnic Institute (TPI, now Tomsk Polytechnic University). In 1973 he graduated from the University with a degree in Physics and Power Plants. He was distributed by the Tomsk Polytechnic Institute to the department number 21 of the Faculty of Physics and Technology. He worked in the department sequentially as an engineer, junior research assistant, senior research assistant, deputy dean for scientific work.
In 1983, he transferred to work at the Scientific Research Institute of Nuclear Physics at TPI. There he created a laboratory to study the interaction of ionizing radiation with a solid. Subsequently, there was the head of this laboratory.
In 1978, he defended his Ph.D. thesis at the UPI on a special topic. Received the academic title of candidate of physical and mathematical sciences. In 1986 he became a senior research fellow. In 1992 he defended his doctoral dissertation at the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute ( MEPhI ) also on a special topic. In 1995, Valery Pavlovich was awarded the title of professor.
He considers professors of the Tomsk Polytechnic University to be his mentors: N. P. Kurina, V. G. Bagrova, D. I. Vaysburda, B. A. Kononov, I. A. Tikhomirova, A. N. Didenko; Associate professors O. V. Smirensky, F. P. Koshelev.
