G.V. Wilderman was born in the family of a lawyer. He received school education in Recklinghausen and in Cologne, then he studied at art schools and academies in Munich, Berlin and Dusseldorf.
Since 1907, the artist lives and works in his native Cologne, where, under the leadership of the theater director and actor Max Martersteig and his conductor Otto Loze, he works on the design of Cologne theaters. Acquaintance with the Martershtieig took place in a secular salon hosted by his wife O. Lohse, where representatives of the theater and art circles of the city of Cologne regularly met. At this time, Wilderman also creates a number of sculptures. In 1911, the artist takes part in the opera festival, and the next year presents his work at the exhibition of the Cologne Society of Artists. In the same year, 1912, the master creates a sculptural ensemble at the source in the Cologne-Mülheim district, “ Sailing on a Ship ”; at the same time he meets the director and director Johannes Maurach, who invites Wilderman to decorate the Essay Theater Grillo for decorative works.
In 1913, the artist came to Munich , here he met with Paul Klee , engaged in design at the National Theater of Munich, the opera houses of Berlin and Leipzig. In 1919, again with Maurach, in the city theater of Dortmund, a stage artist. In 1920, in Berlin, marries Erna Maria Hoayel.

G.V. Wilderman and his work enjoyed the patronage of the authorities during the time of the National Socialist dictatorship in Germany. The artist received numerous orders from the authorities for graphic illustration of literature, including the anthology of Italian poetry “From Dante to Mussolini” published in 1942. In 1944, on the occasion of the artist’s 60th birthday, an article dedicated to his anniversary was published in the NSDAP official body for cultural work with the public, the magazine Music and War, dedicated to his anniversary: Hans Wilderman, stage designer. At the same time, in 1937 the authorities confiscated Wilderman’s triptych "Transfiguration", declared to be related to the " degenerative art ". After the end of World War II, the artist returns to Cologne.
