Description
Denomination - 2½ rappen . The brand was designed by architect . It depicts a white dove carrying an embossed letter in its beak . This is the first three-color stamp in the world printed in black, dark red and blue.
History
The stamp was released on July 1, 1845. Printed by Krebs in Frankfurt . It was in the mail until September 30, 1854.
Cupronickel Berry also executed a mail box depicting the “Basel Dove”, which was mounted in Basel on the medieval city gates of Spalentor [1] .
Stamp with a mistake of a printing plate it. Haube auf Taube {Tuft on a Dove) {{subst: AI}}.
The vertical hitch of the “Basel Dove” with the error “Haube auf Taube” and the postmark “BASEL 3 AOUT VOR-MITTAG” is the only known blanking “before lunch” ( “VOR-MITTAG” ). Sold at the 96th Corinphila auction in March 1997 for 170 000 Swiss francs
