Biography

Leila Piccard was born on January 11, 1971 in the ski resort of Les Sejes, department of Savoie , France . Parents gave her a name impressed by Eric Clapton 's song “ Layla ”. She trained at the local club Club Ski les Saisies 73, trained with her brothers Frank , Jan , Ted and Jeff , who later also became quite famous skiers [1] .

In 1992 she entered the main team of the French national team and made her debut in the World Cup. A year later, she performed at the World Championships in Morioka , took the 37th place in the supergiant program.

Thanks to a series of successful performances, she won the right to defend the honor of the country at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer - she started here in slalom and giant slalom, but in both disciplines she failed the second attempt and showed no result. This season, for the first time, was among the winners of the World Cup, winning a bronze medal in giant slalom at the Cortina d'Ampezzo competition in Italy.

In 1996 she performed at the world championship in Sierra Nevada , where she became the thirteenth in giant slalom. The following season, she visited similar competitions in Sestriere , from where she brought the bronze dignity award won in the giant slalom program - only Italian Deborah Compagnoni and Swiss Karin Roten skipped ahead. In this case, the slalom showed here the fourteenth result.

In October 1997, Pikkar won the first and only victory in the World Cup, beating all rivals in parallel slalom at the home stage in Tin commune [2] .

Being among the leaders of the ski team in France, it successfully passed the selection for the 1998 Olympic Games in Nagano . In the slalom was the sixth after the first attempt, but did not complete the second attempt. In the giant slalom she quit the race already during the first attempt.

Subsequently remained an active athlete until 2000. In the course of her sports career, Leila Piccard has a total of four times climbed to the podium of the World Cup, including one gold medal and three bronze in her record. She never managed to win the Crystal Globe, but in one of the seasons she was in the sixth slalom. The highest position in the overall standings of all disciplines - 13th place. Is, among other things, four-time champion of France in Alpine skiing.
