Story
Nazi Germany historian David Irving sues writer Deborah Lipstadt and her publisher Penguin Books for defamation. In her book, Dipstadt called Irving "the Holocaust denier ." As in the United Kingdom the burden of proof in defamation cases rests with the defendant, Lipstadt and her team of lawyers are beginning to gather evidence that Irving is lying. To this end, the writer, accompanied by her defenders Anthony Julius and royal attorney Richard Rampton, makes a trip to Auschwitz . Members of the Jewish community persuade Lipstadt to resolve the case without a court hearing so as not to create advertising for Irving. But the latter is so sure of his innocence that he agrees to a trial with the participation of a judge instead of a jury , where he would have more room for manipulation. [6]
