Number of inhabitants
According to the 2011 census , 392 people lived in the village, of which 373 (95.2%) were Estonians [2] .
Prior to the administrative reform of local governments in Estonia, 2017 belonged to Tähtvere Parish and was its center. [3] After the reform, the parish merged with the city of Tartu. [four]
In 2000, the population of the village was 485 people [3] .
As of January 1, 2018, there were 344 residents in the village [5] .

History
Since 1879, Ilmazahl became famous thanks to the brick factory that worked in the village, which closed in 1961 . [3]
In 1920, a settlement arose around the center of Ilmatsalu Manor, which in 1977 received the status of a settlement [19] .
In Soviet times, the village was the central manor of one of the most successful farms in the Estonian SSR - the Tartu Support and Demonstration State Farm named after the 50th anniversary of the USSR .
