She was born in 1888 in the village of Bozien , which at that time was part of the Russian Empire .

Elena Jionat studied for two years at the Faculty of Medicine at Odessa University. [one]

Activities

In September 1917, Elena Gionat founded the first Romanian school in Chisinau [2] . Since 1919, she worked as a teacher , and then became the principal in elementary school, and worked there until 1935.

In addition to teaching, Elena also became an activist in the feminist movement.

In November 1928, Elena Dzhionat held a large-scale meeting in Chisinau. She founded and headed the organization of Bessarabian women.

The administrative reform of 1927 allowed Romanian women to participate in political life, which contributed to the development of female social activity [3] .

June 18-19, 1933 the first congress of Bessarabian women was held, to which delegates from all over the country were invited. Congress was led by E. Jionat.

To achieve her goals, Elena Jionat joined the National Peasant Party, and also established the journal Feminist Movement, the creation of which was financed at her own expense [4] .

The organization of Bessarabian women formulated and submitted a petition to the King of Romania, Carol II , in which he demanded full political and civil equality for all citizens, regardless of gender, class, income or title, as well as the abolition of various restrictions on women's education. The petition also focused on the pacifist beliefs of members of the organization.

The activities and fate of Elena Jionat after 1936 remains unknown [1] .
