Early years
Angus was born in London , in a family of Scottish Highlanders mountaineers. He was orphaned by a child - his mother died when he was five, and his father died in World War II when he was twelve. Primary education the future artist received in the parish school at the Canterbury Cathedral . He served in the army as a royal shooter, and after demobilization he got a job as an advertising artist.
Career
In the postwar years, due to the poor economic situation in Britain, which continued after the end of the Second World War, Angus decided to move to Cape Town in South Africa . There he became a well-known and quite successful artist. Soon the small size of the South African publishing market became cramped for McBride, and in 1961 he moved back to the UK. There he began to collaborate with popular science and educational magazines, such as Finding Out, Look and Learn, World of Wonder and Bible Story. In 1975, he began working with Osprey Publishing , where he illustrated the popular series of books Men-at-Arms.
Due to another deterioration of the UK economy in the 1970s, McBride moved with his family back to Cape Town, and continued working with English and American publishing houses. At this time, he creates realistic historically accurate illustrations for Osprey Publishing and for other military-historical publishing houses (Concord publications and others). Among the fans of fantasy, he was already known for his illustrations for the game Middle-earth Role Playing from the publishing house Iron Crown Enterprises.
Angus mainly used gouache , although a number of his paintings are made in oil . He made a large number of detailed sketches, before starting work on the final drawing.
The artist died on May 15, 2007 in Ireland from a heart attack [9] .
