Biography

Arkady Ivanovich Pirogov was born in 1931 in the city of Kerch. In 1949 he entered the Moscow Power Engineering Institute (MPEI) at the Faculty of Electrification of Industry and Transport, and in 1952 he transferred to study at the Faculty of Electrovacuum Engineering and Special Instrument Making (EVPF) at the recently organized Department of Computing and Decision Instruments and Devices (now Computing Engineering), which he graduated. In 1955 he entered the graduate school of MPEI.

During this period, the department, where he worked on his dissertation, focused on the development of cipher engineering, in which magnetic elements were used. As magnetic elements, toroidal cores made of permalloy tape up to 3 microns thick and ferrite cores widely used in industry were used. The leading enterprise in this area was the Scientific Research Institute of Automation (NIIA). Arkady Ivanovich studied the properties of these cores. Based on the materials of these works, his Ph.D. thesis and doctoral thesis were written on the topic: "Experimental and theoretical study of the magnetic properties of small-sized cores."

After defending his doctoral dissertation, he received a doctorate in technical sciences, and the title of professor.

Research interests: magnetic materials, their properties and applications in computer technology and automation. Professor of the Department of Electrophysics A. I. Pirogov was the supervisor of a number of graduate students at MPEI, took part in the training of engineers, and conducted extensive scientific and pedagogical work with students of the Scientific Research Institute of Automatics (NIIA). In recent years, he served as scientific secretary of the dissertation councils of the NIIA and MPEI. He was elected an academician of the Academy of Informatization.

Arkady Ivanovich Pirogov died suddenly in 1992 at the age of 61.
