Apaseo el Alto ( Spanish: Apaseo el Alto ) is a municipality in Mexico , the state of Guanajuato , with an administrative center in the city of the same name . The population according to the 2010 census was 64,433 people.

General information
The name Apaseo can be translated from Purepech as "the habitat of possums . " El Alto can be translated from Spanish as upper .
The area of the municipality is 374 km², which is 1.22% of the total state area [3] . It borders with other municipalities in the state of Guanajuato : in the north with Apaseo el Grande , in the south with Herequaro , in the west with Tarimoro and Celaya , and also in the east it borders with another state of Mexico - Queretaro .

According to statistics from 2000, the working population is employed by sectors of the economy in the following proportions: agriculture, livestock and fishing - 20.1%, industry and construction - 36.5%, services and tourism - 38%, other - 5, 4% [3] .
Infrastructure
According to 2010 statistics, the infrastructure is developed as follows [3] :

- water supply: 97.3%;
- water disposal: 84.1%.
