General information
Periton, which is a mythical flying deer, according to Borges ' Book of Fictional Creatures , had one distinctive feature - it cast a human shadow. Due to this, it was believed that the peritone is the spirit of the deceased away from the traveler’s house. It was believed that winged deer in ancient times was often seen on the islands of the Mediterranean Sea , in the Strait of Gibraltar . It was believed that the peritons feed on people: they flocked at the bewildered sailors with the whole herd and devoured them, while not a single weapon was capable of protecting.
Interesting Facts
- Strange powerful radio signals detected by the Parkes radio telescope were named after the peritons. For a long time, opinions were expressed about their possible earthly origin [1] [2] . In early April 2015, the process of creating Peritons was demonstrated by violating the operating rules of two microwave ovens located in the observatory (in the kitchen for employees and in the premises for visitors). At certain positions of the telescope and early opening of the door of the working furnace with a probability of 1/2, the signal “Periton” appeared [3] [4] .
