The Kazantsev merchants' house is a two-story stone building built at the end of the 19th century in the city of Irbit, Sverdlovsk Region . Currently, the building houses the Museum of Ural Art [1] .
History
The construction of the house was started in 1889 by the famous local contractor Ivan Toropov . According to one version, Gabriel Fomich Kazantsev , the representative of the well-known and respected merchant family of the Kazantsevs in the Urals, was the construction customer. In 1892-1894, risalits were added to the building, and the left wing was also attached [2] .
From 1918 to 2001, the building housed a maternity hospital . In 2002, the house was transferred to the Irbit Museum of Fine Arts , and on May 25, 2006, after reconstruction, the Museum of Ural Art was opened in the building [3] .
Description
The Kazantsev’s house is a stone two-story building, in the composition of which stands out the risalit , which is crowned by a dome with a spire and divides it into two unequal parts, differing in height, articulations and decoration. The main facade of the building is asymmetrical: the right wing is longer and lower than the left. Above the main entrance there is a balcony with a light forged grille; the door and the window to the balcony are combined with a lancet relief.
