Club career
Hans Walshofer began his career at the Edlersdorf club, from where he moved to Floridsdorf in the 1925/26 season, where he played his first matches in the Austrian championship in the spring of 1926. The next season, the striker moved to the Vienna Rapid , but did not play a single match for this team. Therefore, after six months, he left the Rapid and moved to the Wiener Athletics Club , in which he quickly won a place at the base. Already in the 1927/28 season, Walshofer became the team's top scorer. In that season, the Higher Attestation Commission reached the Austrian Cup final, where it was defeated by the Vienna “ Admira ” with a score of 1: 2 (Waltshofer scored the only goal of the Higher Attestation Commission). In the 1928/29 season, the striker with 14 goals took second place in the list of top scorers in the championship, after which he moved to the Wacker club.
For “Wacker”, Walshofer played for the next fifteen years, playing both as a center forward and a left insider. Karl Ziszek became his regular partner in the line of attack. During this period, Walshofer managed to enter the top three of the top scorers of the championship twice more. However, despite the presence of two star strikers, Wacker for a long time ended the seasons in the middle of the table. The situation improved in the late 1930s, when the club managed to take second place three times in a row. In the 1939 German Cup , Wacker reached the semifinals, from which he dropped out after three draw games against the German Waldhof club only by draw.
In 1944, Walshofer completed his playing career. He never managed to win at least one trophy at the club level, but with a score of 177 goals, he is still among the twenty top scorers in the history of the Austrian championship.
Team Career
Walshofer made his debut for the Austrian national team in November 1927 in a match against the Italian national team , which ended in defeat for the Austrians 0-1. Then the striker played two more matches, followed by a long break. The player received the next challenge to the national team only in April 1931 to participate in the Central European Cup , which Austria eventually won. In the famous Wundertim , however, Walshofer did not find a place, since Anton Schall and Matthias Sindelar were in his position. Therefore, over the next two years, the striker played only for the Vienna national team.
After Austria qualified for the 1934 World Cup , Walshofer was included in the team’s application, but did not play a single match during the tournament. Austria eventually lost in the semifinals of the championship. Waltzhofer played his fifth and last match for the Austrians in November of that year against the Swiss national team .
Coaching career
From January to September 1937, Walshofer headed Wacker as a playing coach. In 1947, he took over as Admira’s head coach, where he remained for five years. During this period, Admira showed mediocre results in the Austrian championship, with the exception of the 1948/49 season, when it managed to take third place in the table. The best achievement of the “Admira” under Waltshofer was reaching the final of the Vienna Cup [1] 1947/48, which the team lost to the Vienna “ Austria ” with a score of 1: 2. In 1953, Walshofer left the club. After that, he coached the Gasverk team for some time.
In 1957, Walshofer completed his football career.
