Biography
Born on May 19, 1908 in the village of Tuply, Feodosia district of the Tauride province (now within the city of Sudak, the Republic of Crimea (Russia) / the Autonomous Republic of Crimea).
He began his career in 1926. Since 1933 - worker, donkerman (pump driver) of the Caspian State Shipping Company. He applied best practices at work, having carefully studied the pumping facilities of the “Engineer Pustoshkin” type tankers, and regularly achieved high results. He regularly monitored the correct loading of cargo tanks, due to which the ship’s loading capacity increased by 4.5%, this method later found application in many workers of the republic.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of August 3, 1960 , for outstanding achievements in the development of maritime transport, Peter Grigorievich Melnikov was awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labor with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Hammer and Sickle gold medal.
He actively participated in the public life of Azerbaijan. Member of the CPSU since 1940 . Delegate of the XXII Congress of the CPSU. He was elected a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan.
He died on October 16, 1975 in the city of Baku.
