Biography
Born August 8, 1992 in Manati, Puerto Rico. In childhood, before joining boxing, he was involved in baseball and football [3] .
On November 12, 2010, Rodriguez, along with his friend, set fire to a car, pouring gas on it. Part of the gasoline spilled on Rodriguez. The boxer received second-degree burns of 66% of the body [4] .
Amateur career
Puerto Rico Championship 2009
He performed in the 1st lightest weight category (up to 48 kg). In the semifinals, he lost to Waldemar Pagan [5] .
In July 2009, he won a silver medal at the Pan American Championship in the 1st flyweight category (up to 48 kg) [6] .
Puerto Rico Championship 2010
He performed in the lightest weight category (up to 51 kg). In the 1/8 finals, he lost to Honatan Alejandro [7] .
In May 2010, he won a silver medal at the junior world championship in the flyweight category (up to 51 kg) [8] .
In August 2010, he became the champion of the Youth Olympic Games in the flyweight category (up to 51 kg) [9] .
Professional career
He made his debut in the professional ring on June 1, 2012, having won by knockout in the first round [3] [10] .
In September 2015, he signed a contract with manager Al Haymon [11] .
On June 3, 2016, he won on points the former contender for the world bantamweight title of the Mexican Alberto Guevara [12] [13] .
In December 2016, it was announced that on January 13, 2017, Rodriguez will meet with the former world champion in two weight categories, Argentinean Omar Narvaez in the IBF lightweight eliminator [14] . Later, the battle was postponed to March due to problems with the television. The exact date has changed several times [15] [16] [17] . As a result, the Argentinean completely abandoned the fight [18] .
Champion fight with Paul Butler
In April 2018, it was announced that on May 5, Rodriguez will meet with former world bantamweight champion Briton Paul Butler . At stake will be the vacant IBF world champion title [19] . At the official weigh-in, Butler did not meet the limit in the weight category (118 pounds), showing 121.3 pounds on the scales. Therefore, the title was at stake only for Rodriguez [20] [21] . The fight lasted all 12 rounds. Emmanuel won a landslide victory on points [22] [23] .
World Boxing Super Series Tournament
On May 9, 2018, it was announced that Rodriguez would take part in the 2nd season of the World Boxing Super Series [24] .
Quarter final. Fight with Jason Moloney
On October 20, 2018, he defeated Australian Jason Moloni on points [25] [26] .
Semifinal Fight with Naoya Inoue
On May 18, 2019, he lost by a knockout in the 2nd round to the WBA world champion without defeat Japanese Naoe Inoue [27] [28] .
