The start and finish lines were located on the territory of the Charents estate, one of the main attractions of Gap. A 3.9 km long circle with a vertical drop of 250 meters was laid along the slopes of the surrounding Alpine mountains [1] .
216 runners (111 men and 105 women) from 26 European countries took to the start. Each country could put up to 4 people in each of the 4 races, the team championship was summed up by the sum of the places of the three best of them.
Andrea Mayr from Austria and Bernard Dematteis from Italy successfully defended the European Champions titles they won a year earlier. Given the victory in 2005, Mayr became the most titled woman in the history of competitions. Before her, no one had won this tournament more than two times. The current world champion Alice Haji fought for a silver medal, but in the end she finished only fourth [2] .
