Ship Description
Sailing bombardier ship with a wooden hull. The length of the ship, according to various sources, was 27.4–27.43 meters [comm. 1] , and the width is 8.2-8.23 meters [comm. 2] . Since the ship was intended to be used for fighting in skerries , its draft, compared to that of other bombing ships of the Russian fleet, was reduced and, according to various sources, was from 2.1 to 2.7 meters [comm. 3] . The armament of the vessel consisted of 6 guns, including 2 mortars and 4 mounted on the sides of the gun [1] [2] [3] .
Service History
The bombing ship "Thunder" was laid down in the St. Petersburg Admiralty on March 13 ( 24 ), 1741 , and after launching on October 16 ( 27 ), 1741 , it became part of the Baltic Fleet of Russia . Construction of the ship was carried out by a ship apprentice in the rank of land lieutenant D. Sutherland [1] [3] [4] [5] .
He took part in the Russian-Swedish war of 1741-1743. On June 9 ( 20 ), 1742 , he left Kronstadt as part of a detachment, which, reaching the island of Lavensari, became part of Rear Admiral D. S. Kalmykov's squadron there. June 24 ( July 5 ) separated from the squadron and as part of the detachment went to skerries, where until 3 (14) August it was used as a training vessel. On August 3 (14) he returned to the squadron, which was cruising at that time in the Gulf of Finland , and on September 29 ( October 7 ), together with other ships of the squadron, arrived in Revel [1] .
Throughout the campaign of 1743 he was in Trebizond under the command of a lieutenant of major rank Athanasius Bakhtin [1] [6] .
The bombing ship "Thunder" was dismantled after 1746 [1] [3] .
