Eliza (television series)

Season One

The plot unfolds in 1769 in the vicinity of Turin (Piedmont). The main character, the young Eliza Scalzi, serves with the elderly Countess Agnese Ristori , the mother of Count Fabrizio . Returning home from service, Fabrizio falls in love with Eliza, but is in doubt when she finds out about her ignoble origin. Attempts to make her her mistress are smashed against the virtue of Eliza.

After the death of Countess Agnese, her daughter Marquise Anna takes up the management of the estate and strongly opposes the brother’s relationship with the servant, which will cast a shadow on the ancient family of Ristori. However, lovers Fabrizio and Eliza go against the prejudices of society and decide to get married. Their desire is opposed by the insidious marquise Lucretia van Necker , who wants to renew an old love affair with Fabrizio. To tie the man to herself, she says that the boy worker in the tavern is their common son Martino , and then orders to kill the priest, who agreed to secretly marry the lovers. Martino discovers that he is not the son of Lucretia.

Fabrizio has a list of secret conspirators against the king (Brothers of the Light), but each time he barely escapes death in attempts to transfer it to the ruler. The head of the conspirators, the Duke of Ranieri, is afraid of being exposed and, with the help of Lucretia, has resorted to vile methods to get a list.

Having not received what was desired from Fabrizio, Lucretius makes him guilty of the murder of her husband and leaves the city. Taking advantage of Fabrizio's imprisonment, his brother-in-law Marquis Alvizo wraps around in Rivombroz and, unashamedly of Anna's wife, leads his mistress. Anna suffers from the oppression of her husband and finds solace in the good Eliza, repenting of her desire to separate her from her brother. Alvizo develops syphilis from a wild life, from which he dies. His widow is reunited with the lover of her youth, Dr. Cheppy .

Fabrizio sentenced to decapitation. But Eliza succeeds in delivering the list to Carl Emanuel III before the death penalty is carried out. The king is touched by such devotion, the courage of Eliza, and grants her the count title de Rivombroza , and Fabrizio - pardon. Now, nothing prevents the union of Eliza and Fabrizio.

Season Two

Despite the favor of the king and the official marriage of Fabrizio and Eliza, the noble society turned its back on the Ristori family. Rivombroza after the outbreak of the Marquis of Alvizo is experiencing financial difficulties, complicated by crop failure and the cholera epidemic among the peasants. With the death of Carl Emanuel III in 1773, Ristory's support is nowhere to be obtained - the new king, Victor Amadeus III, does not want to hear about them. In case of non-payment of the debt, the castle of Rivombroza will go to the merchants brothers Victor and Arman Benak . Senior Victor nobly does not rush to repay the debt, but the younger Arman wants to get Rivombroza. He falls under the influence of the fugitive Duke of Ranieri and becomes a member of the deadly assassination attempt on Fabrizio.

Elisa is hard on the death of her husband, finding solace in the upbringing of Martino and daughter Agnese . In 1776, a woman decides to resolve the issue of debt and travels to Naples for a month to Baron Michele di Canellano, who owes his life to her late husband. In Genoa , bandits sent by Arman Benac attack her carriage. The English captain Christian Gray comes to the rescue, who also agrees to provide travelers with his cabin of the mail ship on the way to Naples. Here, Eliza and her daughter and nanny find themselves in the poor quarter of the Four Winds, where they meet Isabella, a long-time acquaintance. With her help, Eliza finds the home of the Baron, where he receives a warm welcome from his widow, Baroness Cristina and her son Nicolo di Canellano . To her own surprise, Eliza meets Captain Gray in the house, for some unknown reason, pretended to be archaeologist Sir Banton, but out of gratitude for her salvation does not betray him.

After a while, Christian confesses to Eliza his feelings and tells why he is hiding his name. Michele di Canellano 20 years ago, in order to gain wealth and influence, cracked down on the Christian family, whose real name is Cristiano Caraciolo di Montezanto. He was the only one who managed to escape and get shelter from English relatives. Eliza convinces Cristiano to give up her thirst for revenge.

Succumbed to the influence of the marquise's lover Lucretia van Necker, Baron Nicolo delays the date for the provision of cash assistance to Elise. Wanting to marry Baron Nicolo and return to secular society, Lucretia kills Christina, who is opposed to this baroness, and blames Eliza for the crime. The baron, in search of Eliza, pogroms the Four Winds, and Cristiano breaks off the roof during the fight. Eliza is forcibly put on a ship to Genoa. The Baron learns that Lucretius was the real killer of his mother, but does not dare to deal with her because of the possible pregnancy of a woman.

Arman Benac in the absence of his brother signs a document and becomes the owner of Rivombroza. Outraged Victor tells the prefect the name of the murderer of Count Fabrizio. The only witness to that tragic evening was stabbed to death by an assassin, and Arman was released in the courtroom. He dies at the hands of his brother, who is not condemned in connection with self-defense.

Victor makes an offer to Elise, but finds out that her heart belongs to a man from Naples, who is near death. Victor forges a letter from which Eliza learns about the death of Cristiano. But she is still going to Naples. Seeing her off to Genoa, Victor tricked him into bringing Eliza to his house and imprisoning him in a wine cellar. Reclaimed after the fall, Cristiano keeps up to date and saves Eliza.

The series was based on the classic English novel " Pamela, or the rewarded virtue " by Samuel Richardson . Events moved to Piedmont of the XVIII century. Filming took place in the palaces of Piedmont; hundreds of historical costumes were sewn.

The scenery of Rivombroza were filmed at the Allier Summer Palace in Turin . The name Rivombroza comes from Riv'umbrusa (lato ombreggiato - the shadow side).

The series was produced by the Italian company Together Productions / De Angelis and the German Victory Media Group . The audience of the series, released on Canale 5 , for 2.5 months has grown from 6.5 million viewers 2.5 times. The series has become one of the most successful projects in the last 6 years.

Director Chinzia Torrini was filming the first season and 12 episodes of the second season. Then it was replaced by director Stefano Alleva ^[1] . The music for the series was written by composer Savio Riccardi.

During the filming of the series, leading actors Vittoria Puccini and Alessandro Preziosi had a love affair that ended with an engagement.

Starring

The first season costing 18 million euros (26 episodes of 50 minutes each) gathered in Italy more than 14 million viewers (56.4%). The series was awarded the “Il Telegatto” television prize in four categories: for the best series and the best program of the year; starters Vittoria Puccini and Alessandro Preziosi are noted.

The rights to show the series were purchased by several countries: Albania , Belgium , Bosnia and Herzegovina , Bulgaria , Georgia , Germany , Spain , Poland , the Republic of Macedonia , Russia , Romania , Serbia , Slovakia , Turkey , Ukraine , Finland , France , Czech Republic . The continuation of the story in season 3 under the name “Eliza's Daughter: Return to Rivombroza” takes place 20 years after the events of season 2 and is based on the works of Dumas father “ Jehovah 's Companions ” ( French Les Compagnons de Jéhu , 1856) and “A Family Without a Name » Jules Verne .

Piedmont is controlled by the French after the armistice , which is why the Italians are dissatisfied and support the local noble robber , nicknamed Hawk . On returning from Paris, Agnese Ristori (Sarah Felberbaum), an orphan and daughter of Eliza and Fabrizio, encounters him. The hawk generously lets the girl go. Her brother Martino is engaged to Vitoria Granieri , who, at the request of the local captain Loe, agrees to help him marry Agnese. The girl meets the Marquis Andrea Casalegno (Giulio Berruti), whom she introduces to her brother and learns with horror that he is in fact Andrea van Necker , the son of Lucretia van Necker , the mortal enemy of the Ristori family.

To force Captain Loe to return the seized grain to the peasants, Hawk abducts Agnese. In captivity, the girl soon recognizes in the kidnapper of her lover Marquis Andrea van Necker. Lovers swear in love and decide to get married as a sign of reconciliation of their families. But Lucretia is against this alliance and seeks to kill Agnese. When trying to save his sister, Martino mortally wounds Lucretius. Andrea furiously refuses her promise and intends to move to Venice .

Having not received Andrea's forgiveness, Agnese agrees to marry Captain Loe, hoping to influence his decisions and ease the fate of the peasants. Andrea interrupts their wedding and takes away the bride. Offended by this, Captain Loe arrests Martino on charges of the murder of Lucretia van Necker and threatens with a guillotine . To save her husband from death, Vitoria becomes the mistress of Captain Loe. She also notices the Hawk mask in the hands of Andrea van Necker and reports this to her lover, receiving in return a precious ring from the captain's chest. At the festival, soldiers fail to capture Andrea, who escapes from Agnese and hides in an abandoned estate. His servant, when trying to buy passes to move to Venice, comes across to the French, who torture him and find out the whereabouts of the Hawk.

Vitoria makes a promise of love to Captain Loe and leaves her husband. The captain laughs at her naivety and takes away the ring given to her mistress, which is part of Napoleon ’s stolen property, to appear as an executive officer in front of his superiors and get an appointment as prefect in Paris. Martino reunites with his cousin, whom he has been in love with since his youth.

Agnese agrees to the captain's offer to become his wife in exchange for the abolition of the death penalty by van Necker. Members of the Hawk gang arrange an escape and he catches up with Captain Loe’s carriage. During a fight between two men, Vitoria shoots a captain with a gun from revenge. Arriving General Ducreau learns about the crimes of Captain Loe, receives a promise from van Necker to lay down his arms and is sympathetic to the arrested Vitoria, which promises her salvation from execution.
