Pelerina ( French pelerine - “wanderer”, “pilgrim”) - an element of women's and men's clothing, mainly in the form of a sleeveless cape or necessarily removable, large collar covering the shoulders. Comes from the top of the monastic robe.
In Russia, the drape as an independent part of women's clothing spread in the XVIII century and over time took on a variety of forms. The most common form of a drape is round, evenly covering the back, arms and chest. Drape was sewn from fabrics, lace and fur. After the staging of the ballet “ Giselle ” by A. Adana in 1849, the eponymous model of drape made of ermine fur covered with silk gained popularity. The drape was an element of the uniform of schoolgirls and schoolgirls; the color of such a drape was established by the charter of the educational institution [1] . In the XX century, a drape appeared in a woman’s wardrobe as a combination of a collar and a cape and was often made of lace, for example, Vologda [2] . Fur pelerines are made from valuable species: mink, squirrels, muskrat, sable, marten, column, ermine, silver-black fox, arctic fox. The hem of a fur drape is often adorned with tails [3] . A brief household encyclopedia of 1960 recommends that you put on pelerines only in a theater, concert, in the evening, but do not wear them on the street [4] .
In men's clothing, the drape was often part of the men's coat or cloak. From the second half of the 19th century, a drape extended to the knees was present in the uniform of some arms of the European troops. In the 20th century, drape was a part of the male McFerlein coat, overcoat and lionfish .
