Biography

Virginia Christine Ricketts was born on March 5, 1920 in the town of ( Iowa , USA ) [4] . Her mother was an emigrant from Sweden [5] . Shortly after birth, she moved with her mother and stepfather (for some time bore his last name - Kraft ) [4] to the state capital - Des Moines , where the girl graduated from elementary school. Then they had to move to a small town, also in Iowa, where Virginia graduated from high school. After that, she and her family left for Los Angeles , where she graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles .

In 1942, Virginia played on stage in the production of Gedda Gubler , where she was spotted as a “talent hunter” from the Warner Bros. movie studio . She signed a contract with the studio, but played in only five of their films, after which she moved to Universal Pictures , where she worked for many years [5] . Since 1951, Virginia began acting in television films and series.

Kristin was widely known as Mrs. Olson , the main character of more than a hundred commercials for coffee, broadcast on television from the mid-1960s to the mid-1980s [6] , in which she played the role of a Swedish woman who put up quarreling young family couples treating them to "grown in the mountains of Folgers " [4] . This seemingly insignificant role brought her a considerable share of fame: Mrs. Olson repeatedly parody such prominent comedians as Carol Burnett , Johnny Carson , Bob Hope , Ann-Margret , Jackie Gleason [7] . In 1971, the water tower of Stanton, where the actress was born, was "converted" into a coffee pot in recognition of Christine's merits in this advertisement [5] .

In 1969, Christine played her last role on the wide screen, in 1976 - in the television series (in 1979 she voiced several minor characters in several episodes of the animated series " Scooby and Scrapie-Doo "), in 1986 - in the commercials, after which she retired peace.

The last years of her life, Christine was an active member of ; was a member of the jury of the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival theater program; received the symbolic honorary title "Mayor of " - the Los Angeles area, where she lived for a long time with her husband [8] .

Virginia Christine died July 24, 1996 in her home in Brentwood from a cardiovascular disease . She was buried at [9] .
