Exposure

Permanent exhibition, located on an area of 1 thousand square meters. m - unique in its kind. The museum is located in a building where in the 1950s the Moscow regional office of the 850-km gas pipeline Saratov-Moscow , the first in the USSR and the second-largest gas pipeline in the world, connected Moscow with the Elshansky gas field ( Saratov region ) and laid basis for creating a modern Unified Gas Supply System of Russia (UGSS)

The main exhibition is a complex of ten rooms and a street area.

The site includes a historical block, a production and technical section and an educational unit. The exposition was created using modern interactive technologies.

Diorama "Pioneers"

Getting acquainted with the historical part of the exhibition, visitors at the same time get an idea of the scale of the enterprise’s activities. Here is a pioneer diorama dedicated to one of the episodes of the construction of the Saratov-Moscow gas pipeline in 1946. The exhibition "Milestones of the history of the company" presents the original documents relating to the creation of the gas transmission system of the country, photographs and footage of the historical chronicles, the original tools of builders and gas workers. A special place in the museum is occupied by the “Memory is stored” showcase, which houses military relics that were discovered by the company's employees during the annual All-Russian event “Memory Watch”.

Layout of CS "Volokolamskaya"

At the second level of the museum, visitors get the opportunity to get acquainted with the main aspects of the gas transportation process, new technologies. Visitors are given the opportunity to make a virtual journey through the gas pipe from the production well to the consumer using a special animation model - clean and cool the gas, identify weld defects, go through the model of a gas crane, see the actual dimensions of the pipeline with a diameter of 1420 mm, try yourself as a gas distribution manager station. In a separate zone, you can try on the protective clothing of gas workers, take a picture in it and send a picture by e-mail.

At the zero level, interactive layouts of the main facilities of the Unified Gas Supply System are located : compressor, gas distribution, gas metering stations, as well as an underground gas storage station (underground gas storage). On multimedia stands, the whole process of natural gas transportation is captured, principles of organization and operation of the stations are demonstrated.

Museum Fund

The museum has more than 2000 exhibits, including original documents related to the creation of the USSR gas transmission system, photographs, a music library, footage of the historical chronicles, original gas transmission equipment.

Most of the exhibits were provided by branches of Gazprom transgaz Moscow and veterans of the gas industry.

Gas pumping unit "COOPER BESSEMER"

A unique exhibit of the street exposition is the COOPER BESSEMER gas pumping unit weighing 65 tons. It is one of 24 such units that at the end of World War II were delivered by sea from the USA to Arkhangelsk , from where they were sent by rail to the construction site of the gas pipeline compressor stations Saratov - Moscow . From railway platforms, the units were transferred to special metal sledges and with the help of T-34 tanks used as tractors, delivered to construction sites. After the beginning of the “cold war”, the supply of components and spare parts for gas equipment ceased, almost all the “stuffing” of foreign units was replaced by domestic ones, and the Gorky plant “Revolutionary Engine” started producing gas pumping units 10-GK.

Gas piston power station Clark DG-4

Here, on the territory adjacent to the building, you can familiarize yourself with the CLARK motor-generator, as well as with the HK-12ST aviation gas turbine engine, one of those that was used in gas transportation in the mid-1970s.

For the construction of the first main gas pipeline, pipes of a diameter of 325 mm were used. The museum presents a fragment of such a pipe, extracted from a depth of 2.5 m on a stretch of its useful life. Despite the fact that more than 70 years have passed since the end of construction, bitumen insulation, which was applied manually, was well preserved on the pipe.

Mode of operation

The museum is open to the public daily from 09:00 to 17:30. Attendance is free, by prior arrangement.
