Story

The plot is based on events in Khaibah . Due to impassability, it is not possible to deport the population of Khaibakh and residents of neighboring villages who were driven to Khaibah in a timely manner. They are locked in a collective farm stable. In order to meet the deadlines for eviction, the colonel in charge of the operation (the prototype was 3rd-level State Security Commissioner Mikhail Gvishiani ) ordered him to set fire to the stable. Attempting to prevent this, the Deputy People's Commissar of Justice of Chechen-Ingushetia, Dziaudin Malsagov, and the officer who supported him were arrested. The senior lieutenant, who received orders to set fire to the stable, shoots. Soldiers shoot people running out of the fire.

Filming

Initially, the film had the certificate of the national film of Russia, which gave the right to financing from the budget, but in practice it was filmed with private donations [2] [3] . The general sponsor was Abubakar Arsamakov . The film had the working title “Ashes”. Under the same name, it was supposed to be released on screens, but after the appearance of the eponymous series, the name had to be changed. The filmmakers explained the current name by the prevalence of opinion that these events should be forgotten [1] .

After the restoration of the Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, the Galanchozh district in which these events took place was not restored. Now no one lives there and you can visit it only with special permissions [4] . Therefore, the shooting took place in the Shatoi , Kurchaloev and Itum-Kalinsky regions of Chechnya . The choice of the director is explained by the fact that Erkenov himself is a representative of the deported people - the Karachais , therefore they considered that he would be more sincere. Erkenov made the film "Cold" about the deportation of his people. The editing and scoring of the film “It is ordered to forget” was made at the Mosfilm studio. The parishioners of the mosque on Novokuznetskaya in Moscow, who voiced many episodes of the film, greatly assisted in the filming. [5]

In one episode of the film, soldiers shoot hospital patients. In fact, such a case took place in Urus-Martan . In another episode, local administration employee Reikhan refuses to sign a denunciation. The prototype of this character was Ruslana Kokonaev’s grandmother (producer, one of the authors of the script, performer of an episodic role), who was exiled to Siberia for such an act, where she died [4] .

The film sounds harmonious , which belonged to the Chechen musician and composer Umar Dimaev . It was with this harmony that Umar Dimaev raised the spirit of his fellow tribesmen during the years of deportation, where he was sent with his people. In the film, the son of Umar Dimaev Amarbek plays on it [5] .

Movie Ban

The premiere of the film was to be held in Grozny on May 10, 2014. However, the Russian Ministry of Culture banned the screening of the film in Russia on the grounds that, according to the ministry, it “ incites ethnic hatred ” [5] [6] [7] [4] . According to the producer of the film, Ruslan Kokonayev, he has a psycholinguistic expert opinion, which directly contradicts the opinion of the Ministry [8] .

According to other sources, the head of the cinematography support department Vyacheslav Telnov refused to issue a film rental permit, justifying this by the lack of documents in the NKVD archives confirming the events underlying the film, called the film “historical fake” and said that the film’s demonstration would stir up ethnic strife . The Ministry of Culture denied the information about its authorship of the ban on the demonstration of the film and reported that the film was sent for examination, but could not answer which one. According to Hussein Erkenov, there are a huge number of documents on the described events and he is surprised that officials of the Ministry of Culture did not find them [3] .

Ruslan Kokonaev said:

I believe that this film, on the contrary, contrary to opinions, is rehabilitating the Russians, it shows what it really was. The main idea that runs through the whole film with a red thread is that man was created as the most precious creature on Earth and born free. In those years, the law of society was neglected, the will of one strong man was higher than the law and will of society. Human rights and freedoms have been violated. There are no analogies in the film with today's power, we showed exactly that power and that society [1] .

Festival Show

In 2014, the film was shown in the non-competitive program of the Moscow International Film Festival . This happened due to the demand of the director of the film, Hussein Erkenov, who was supported by film critics. About the screening of the film became known only five days before the festival. Many viewers could not get on the show. At the same time, there was no mention of the film either in the booklets or in the film festival program presented on the official website, as if the film itself was ordered to be forgotten [8] .

In the same year, the film was shown at the Warsaw Film Festival [9] .

Criticism

... in hindsight, I meticulously went over all the director’s mistakes and, of course, found them: a few minor storylines that were not brought to the end, simplistic and popular predictable characters, it’s immediately clear about each of the heroes when he first appears. Here is the scum and sadist enkevedeshn, here is the cowardly chairman of the collective farm, surrendering his own, here is a noble abrek , here is a young Russian officer, caught between a criminal order and his own conscience.

Everything is black and white, no half-tones, no psychological volume ... but the audience was sobbing! The hall lived the life of these Chechen peasants, for all these an hour and a half passed not in an elite Moscow cinema, but there, in the mountains, in the midst of snow with blood stains and burning houses.

It was amazing directorial magic and it was clear that I spit from the high bell tower of the Erkenes on all the rules by which a movie is created for the smart, subtle and understanding in this sense. Because he sees from his bell tower some kind of secret through which he knows how to make a movie without any rules that cries both sophisticated and simple [2] .
