Description
The flag of Alma-Ata is a white panel with thin red stripes along the upper and lower edges. In the center is the city emblem of Alma-Ata. The ratio of the width of the flag to the length is 1: 2.
History
Soviet time
In the Soviet Union , cities did not have flags. But instead, they had red banners with the corresponding inscriptions.
First flag
The first official approved flag of the city appeared with the emblem in 1993. The flag changed, changing only the coat of arms and the shade of red stripes. The current flag was approved in 2014, when the Nauryzbay district was created, because of which I had to add 1 apple in the coat of arms.
Justification of Symbols
Perhaps the thin red stripes in the lower and upper edges symbolize the color of the aport , which once grew in the city (maybe now). The exact symbolism of the stripes is not defined.
Similar flags
Due to the red stripes, this flag is similar to the flag of Austria, which also has stripes, but they are larger (stripes) in thickness.
