Reaction
The authors of The Encyclopedia of Martial Arts Movies write that “the plot is rather confusing, especially when using flashbacks inside flashbacks, but it’s interesting, and the martial arts are good” [4] . A cityonfire.com reviewer criticizes the actors for playing roles (in particular, why Jiang Sheng plays the main villain and Lu Feng the “good” guy), expresses dissatisfaction with the fighting scenes, pointing to their small number and poor combination of the “poisonous” acrobatic style and the sword [5] . The critic Boris Khokhlov, who represents the site HKCinema.ru, sees a clear separation of the film into two, the first of which the film critic declares to be a “serious” action movie “from poisonous”, and the second he calls “a wonderful whisker-tale,” and both, from his point of view, “ pleasantly complement each other ” [6] .
