The PCI IDE ISA Xcelerator (PIIX) , also known as Intel 82371, is a set of Southbridge chipset components used in schematics solutions for building a computer motherboard , developed and manufactured by Intel.

PIIX
The first release of the PIIX combined an IDE controller with two Intel 8237 direct memory access controllers), an Intel 8253 programmable interval timer , two Intel 8259 programmable interrupt controllers, and a bridge from the PCI bus to the ISA bus. It was introduced with the 430FX Triton chipset in 1995. The mobile version was introduced with the 430MX mobile Triton chipset.

- 82371MX (MPIIX) - mobile version
PIIX3
PIIX3 is a USB 1.0 controller with support for external APIC I / O. Used with the north bridges 430HX and 430VX Triton II and 440FX .
There were only one option:

PIIX4
With the advent of PIIX4, ACPI support, an enhanced IDE controller with UltraDMA / 33 or ATA-4 support, and an integrated Real Time Clock with CMOS memory (type MC146818) have become available. Used in conjunction with the north bridges 430TX and 440LX. ACPI support has been updated in PIIX4E. Mainly used in motherboard logic on 440BX, 440EX, 440GX, 440ZX and 450NX chipsets. The mobile version was used in 440BX and 440ZX-M chipsets.
There were the following options:
- 82371AB (PIIX4) - the basic version
- 82371EB (PIIX4E) - an improved version and
- 82371MB (PIIX4M) is a mobile version.
PIIX5
It was released to create motherboards on an Itanium processor (460GX I / O controller and a component of the Firmware Bridge chipset, IFB); as a result, it was produced in versions 82372FB (PIIX5), 82468FB, and, finally, FW82468GX (IFB).
