Biography

Kuzma Svyatogor was born on November 1, 1890 in the Vitebsk province in a family of petty bourgeois. Educated in the Vitebsk 8-grade gymnasium.

October 1, 1912 he entered the service of the Russian Imperial Army as a freewill 1st class, served in the 55th Infantry Regiment of Podolsk . After completing military service, he was credited to the reserve with the rank of junior non-commissioned officer . July 21, 1914 Svyatogor was mobilized and seconded to the 89th Belomorsky Infantry Regiment . On July 25 of the same year he was appointed to serve in the 2nd company of the 90th Onega Infantry Regiment . On August 17, 1914, he was stabbed near the town of Opole, and on September 10 he returned to duty. October 24, 1914 was promoted to ensign . On March 16, 1915, he was second wounded during a battle near the village of Kukhanov, and on June 2 of the same year he returned to duty, but already 10 days later, on June 12, he was wounded for the third time during the battle near the village of Kunyava.

November 27, 1915 was appointed observer in the 18th corps aviation unit. December 14, 1915 "for military distinction" was promoted to second lieutenant . January 29, 1916 was sent to the Sevastopol Military Aviation School for flight training, which he graduated on June 16, 1916 and received the rank of military pilot. On July 27, 1916 he was appointed a military pilot in the 35th aviation detachment.
