Biography

Came from the dynasty of Eutidemides. He was probably the son of Eutited I. According to another version, he could have been a relative of the Diodotides dynasty, the predecessors of Eutidemids.

Nothing is known about his youth. After the death of his father or during the reign of the elder brother Demetrius I, the viceroy of Arachosia and Drangiana (Sistan) - from about 185 BC. e. For some time it was even considered a usurper, but the numismatic analysis of the coins of this ruler proves belonging to the ruling dynasty.

He took advantage of the discord in Bactria to strengthen his position and expand his possessions. Around between 180 and 175 BC. e after the death of the nephew of Agathocles I (according to another version, Antimach I himself threw Agathocles I). It is believed that he could make a trip to Gandhara, but was defeated by Apollodot I.

However, the acquisition of the throne of Greco-Bactria by Antimachus I caused even greater weakening of the state. These actions were taken by Demetrius II , the son of Demetrius I, and the Greek military Eucratides . Probably, in Bactria, Antimach I was able to hold out until 170 BC. e.

Following this, he retreated to Arachosia, where he had the support of the local nobility. He ruled here until about 160 BC. e. After him, Arachosia and Drangianu were occupied by Demetrius II.
