Nea losia

Nea Llocia [4] ( Greek Νέα Λιόσια ή Ίλιον [2] ) is a city in Greece , the northern suburb of Athens . Located at an altitude of 90 meters above sea level [1] , 24 kilometers north-west of Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" and 6 kilometers north of the center of Athens, Omonias Square. The administrative center of the community (Dima) Ilion ( Δήμος Ιλίου [2] ) in the peripheral unit of West Athens in the periphery of Attica . The population is 84,793 residents according to the 2011 census [2] . The area is 9.453 square kilometers [1] . The density is 8,969.96 people per square kilometer [2] . At the local elections of 2014, Nikolaos Zenetos ( Νικόλαος Ζενέτος , in the position since 2007) was elected as the Dimarch.

Since 2010, the department of the Metropolis of Ilion, Acharna and Petroupolis Has been located in Nea Losia after the division of the Attica metropolis. Cathedral - Annunciation Church in Ilion.

To the east of the city is the motorway 1 Piraeus - Athens - Thessaloniki - Evzoni , part of the European route E75 .

History

The Ilion-Trois Settlement ( Ίλιον Τρωάς ) was founded in March 1853. According to the census of 1861, 227 inhabitants lived here. In the next few years, residents of Losia ( Ano-Losia ) showed interest in the settlement. The settlement was renamed to Kato Lloziya ( Κάτω Λιόσια ), and at the end of the XIX century to Nea Losia [5] . In 1925, the community of Nea Losia was created and separated from the community of Athens [6] . The territory of the community initially included about half of the territory of modern Peristerion , most of Kamateron , entirely Ayi-Anaririri and Petroupolis . In 1951, the population of the community was 5,460 inhabitants, and in 1961, 31,810 inhabitants, which is almost five times more [5] . In 1963, the community of Nea Losia was recognized by the community (dim) [6] . In 1994, the city and the community of Nea Losia were renamed Ilion [6] .
