Distribution
Northern Highlands and Plains
The northern highlands include the lower regions of the Potohar and Azad Kashmir regions and the higher elevation regions covering the foothills of the Himalayas , Karakorum and Hindu Kush mountains. Some of the wildlife species found in the northern highlands and on the Potohar Plateau include endangered species of Bharal , Eurasian Lynx , Himalayan Goral , Indian Leopard , Marco Polo Sheep , groundhogs (in Deosai National Park ) and harz , bird species mountain partridges , eagle owls , Himalayan monals and Himalayan ular , amphibian species Duttaphrynus himalayanus and Nanorana vicina . Threatened species include the Himalayan bear , Tien Shan brown bear , Asiatic wolf , Kashmiri gulman , wapiti , rhino goat , rhesus monkey , Siberian mountain goat , smooth-haired otter and Himalayan musk deer , bird species Himalayan pheasants , peregrine falcon and brown-eyed species .
Indus Plains and Sind Deserts
The Indus River and its many eastern tributaries, including the Chinab , form many river relief forms that occupy most of the Indus plains in the Punjab and Western Sindh . Some of the endangered species on the Indus plains and in the Sind deserts include nilgau , common fox and wild boar , birds of the Alexandra species, ringed parrot , barn owl , black kite , common lane , hoopoe , common peacock , pink-bellied real bulbul , gray pigeon , pegans and Turkestan tuviks , reptile species, spectacle snake , star turtle , Bungarus sindanus and yellow monitor lizard and amphibian species, tiger frog and Bufo stomaticus . Some endangered mammal species include axis , garn , Hyelaphus , Indian rhino , urial and Sind bearded goat , African vulture species, and Geoclemys hamiltonii reptile species and Gangan gavial . Partridge gray is one of the few birds that can be found in the desert of Cholistan. The Tarparkar Desert maintains a fair population of Gazella bennettii . An Indian kulan migrates from the Indian part of the Great Kach Runn to Pakistan in search of food. The number of wild boars has increased due to the immunity that they enjoy in the Muslim community, which prohibits its consumption by people.
Extinct
The Asian lion used to be found in this region. In 1810, the last lion was killed near Cote Didi . [one]
Western Highlands, Plains, and Deserts
The western region of Pakistan, most of which is occupied by the province of Balochistan , has a complex geography. Some types of mammals include caracal , Afghan fox , dromedary , gazelle , Indian porcupine , eared hedgehog , goat , honey badger and striped hyena , species of bearded birds, wobble and derbnik , reptile species eublefara and efa and amphibian green toad .
Wetlands, Coastal Areas, and Marine Life
There are a number of protected wetlands in Pakistan (under the Ramsar Convention ). Wetlands are a habitat for migratory birds such as curly pelicans and Demoiselle crane , as well as predatory osprey species, common kingfisher , angler cat and Bengal cat near the coast. The Chashma and Towns Dolphins Reserve protects endangered Indian dolphins that live in fresh water . The length of the coastline of Pakistan is 1,050 km in length and consists of a variety of habitat species supporting a wide range of animals, of which more than 1000 species of fish live in the reefs of the continental shelf . The west coast of Bolshoi Kachskogo Ranna east of the Indus delta and below the Tarparkar desert is one of the few places where common flamingos breed. It is also the habitat of an endangered species of small Indian bustard . The Indus River Delta is the nesting site of the striped snakehead , Channa marulius , Barilius modestus, and many catfish species such as Rita rita . An Indian sleeve swims to spawn from the Arabian Sea into fresh water. Species that are important to people as a food, such as Tor putitora and large freshwater shrimp (Macrobrachium spp.), Are part of the rich aquatic life. Along the shores of Astola and Ormar , the beaches of Balochistan and Hawke's Bay and Sandspit in Sindh nest in five endangered sea turtles : green turtle , loghead , bisse , olive turtle and leatherback turtle . Sea snakes , such as the two-colored bonito , are also found in the pelagic zone of the sea. Pakistan's wetlands are also home to endangered species the Ganges gavial and swamp crocodile , which prefer a freshwater habitat.
