Lebanese by birth. In 1904 - 1910 he studied at the Paris Conservatory. In 1910 , he played in a local troupe in Cairo (in French ). In 1912 he created the troupe and included in its repertoire plays of world classics ( Sophocles , Shakespeare , Moliere , Hugo ), works of Arab playwrights ( Najib al-Haddad , Farah Lisets ). In 1914 - 1916 , teamed up with Higazi troupe, performed in troupe performances. His best roles are Macbeth and Othello ( Macbeth and Othello by Shakespeare ), Oedipus ( Oedipus Rex by Sophocles ), Kin (Keen, or Genius and Confusion by Dumas father ).
He toured North Africa in 1920 . He organized a theater in Tunisia , which he led in 1921 - 1922 . In 1926 , teamed up with Yousef Wahbi at the Ramses Theater. Since 1930 , chairman of the "Union of Theater Egypt" in 1945 , chairman of the "Union of Theater and Film Figures". Since 1931 starred in the movie . In 1952 he headed the New Egyptian Troupe.
