Biography
Born in a family of teachers at Boston University , doctors of science who immigrated to the United States from Nigeria . She worked as a pharmacist, but then decided to connect life with music.
Creative Way
At the beginning of her musical career, she performed with the group The Rock by Funk Tribe, performed her poems to music in the style of jazz , blues , funk and gospel . In 2004 , Phanai Records released her solo album Black and Blues . Iioka began touring and collaborating with other bands such as The Press Project and Tempo Valley. [one]
In 2008 , her second album, Hum The Bass Line, was released on the same label. In the same year, Iioka recorded a cover version of U2's famous song “ Desire ” for the tribute album “ In The Name Of Love: Africa Celebrates U2 ”. Artists from various countries of Africa participated in the recording of the album.
In 2009 , Iioka decided to change her approach to writing poems and songs. She began to create songs in a more traditional style. Two mini-albums were released this year: “ This Time Around ” and “ Run Into the Rain ”.
In November 2010 , the singer released a new album " Say Yes ", consisting of nine songs and two poems. Even before the release of the album, the first song, "The Yellow Brick Road Song," was featured on HBO's " How to Succeed in America ." This song also became the main musical theme of the series “ Mediator Kate ”.
In January 2011 , Iioka was nominated for an Independent Music Awards in the R&B category for the song "This Time Around." [2]
Currently, the singer is working on a new album and writes poetry.
