Biography
Born on October 14, 1878 in Spitkovitsy, Vadovitsky district, in the family of organist Jan Monchensky and Felicia from Bohuslavsky. He graduated from high school in Wadowice. During 1894 - 1897 he graduated from the construction department of the industrial school in Krakow. He left the practice in the workshop of the restoration of the Wawel department under the direction of Slawomir Ojivolsky . [one]
During 1901 - 1913 worked in Warsaw in the studio of Jozef Dzekonsky , where he took part in designing a large number of churches. He wrote memoirs about this period, where he carefully listed all the objects, which later allowed the researchers of Dzekonsky's work to clearly identify his background. Memories remain in the manuscript and are kept in the ownership of the family. [2] Polish art historian Krzysztof Stefansky notes the significant similarity of the then projects of the studio Dzekonsky and independent sacred works of Monchensky, which may indicate a significant participation of the latter. [3] In 1915 , as a citizen of Austria-Hungary, he was interned in Moscow. [four]
He presented the projects of two churches at the fifth exhibition of the Society for the Promotion of Fine Arts in Warsaw in December 1908 - January 1909. [5] 1910 exhibited sketches of churches at an exhibition of Polish architects in Lviv. [6]
He was a member of the Society for the custody of monuments of the past. He performed a large number of measurements of ancient temples in Poland. Measurement results are stored at the Institute of Art PAN. [7] In 1958 , in the journal Ochrona Zabytków, he wrote an article on the memoirs of 1910-1915. The private archive of Monchensky was lost during the Second World War. [eight]
He was a member of the competition jury for the design of the Stashits School in Warsaw ( 1914 ) [9] , the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Warsaw ( 1929 ) [10] , a closed competition for the project to construct the School building in Lublin ( 1931 ). [eleven]
For the construction of the building of the Ministry of Education and Religion in Warsaw, the Order of the Revival of Poland was awarded in 1933 . [12] November 5, 1935 Golden Academic laurel wreath for "outstanding services to Polish art in general." [13] Among the awards is also the Golden Cross of Merit ( 1938 ) [14] , the Commander's Cross of the Order of the Renaissance of Poland "for outstanding scientific activities" ( July 22, 1951 ) [15] , Second-degree Labor Standard ( 1954 ), Medal Decade ( 1955 ) , State award of the second degree for achievements in the field of architecture ( 1952 ), State award of the first degree for architectural creativity ( 1955 ), Gold honorary award of the Capital City of Warsaw ( 1960 ). others.
